BUNNIES!

Brunie is our baby girl. She was born in 2003 in Chile, where we picked her up from a pet store. She loves to be around people, is very friendly and will hop up to newcomers and give them a sniff.  She likes to sit underneath things (a table, a chair, an outstretched pair of legs -- anything!) and scoot behind things.  She loves carrots and parsley and broccoli, and will eat out of your hand.  She is also quite the adventurer -- the first to explore new areas, the first to realize the bedroom door has been left open and to take advantage of that fact, and she often leaps willynilly from great heights with little or no thought to the consequences. She loves being petted and will sit happily for as long as you are willing to pet her.  When she is really happy she will bounce straight in the air and do a little midair head toss that is called a binky -- we call it the cutest thing ever and nothing makes us happier than seeing her do one

Dutch is our sweet little boy. We got him from a rabbit rescue organization here in Massachusetts and we think he is about a year older than Brunie. He was found wandering around somewhere so we're not sure exactly. We picked him up on the fourth of July. He came with the name Dutch. He is a very sweet boy.  Likes being petted more than food (the opposite of Brunie).  And when he is happy he jumps in the air and wiggles around and does binkies like mad. His little white gloves just kill us! And when he cleans his face it is just too cute for words. He is definitely more cautous than Brunie, likes to consider his options extensively before committing to any action. He is also afraid of our hardwood floor and won't leave the safety of the rug for any reason. We suspect he is smarter than Brunie, but don't tell her that. He lets her be the boss in exchange for constant love and attention.

When we first introduced Brunie and Dutch it was hate at first sight. Brunie routinely attacked Dutch, bit him, drove him off. Dutch seemed bewildered that his constant attempts at making friends were rebuffed. We tried all the tricks in the book -- took them on car rides to stress them out, smeared banana on dutch's forehead, etc. Nothing seemed to work. We tried to get them to bond for 10 miserable months. And then one day, magically, we realized that it had been quite awhile since they had fought and maybe, just maybe, they were friends. Now they are inseparable and even cuter than before. Yay!
